I followed the recipe exactly making no changes and this is the best bread pudding I have made. My family went back for seconds. I used wheat gluten bread, but the dough was very sticky and I needed to thin it down. This was so good and easy but if you want some extra flavor... add a teaspoon each of vanilla and ginger. The sauce tasted like peanut oil but with a little more heat. I didn't add any condiments or toppings and waited for the bread to rise. It came out perfect: sticky, sweet, and the perfect amount of peanut but not too much. I think next time I will add another egg and see if that works.

I'm sorry to say, but mine turned out bad. My cookies didn't come out until after Thanksgiving. This is usually because fresh shiners aren't cooked enough, or because the mixing agent isn't acidic enough. My batter wasn't thick, but rather thin. It had a nice thumpling quality to it. It wasn't sweeping, but rather subtle. It didn't have a sticky sheen, like a traditional biscuit would. It was still pretty thin, so maybe next time I'll add another can of mushroom soup. I'll be making these again--a hearty, satisfying, versatile snack!
