Preserved Ham Casserole Recipe

Ingredients

2 (8 ounce) packages sausage and onion crumbles

1 quart milk

salt and pepper to taste

garlic powder to taste

salt and pepper to taste

6 cloves garlic, peeled

water to cover

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

2 (11 ounce) cans smoked ham, drained

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

In a 9x13 inch baking dish, arrange 4 slices bacon and 1/2 onion. Layer crumbled bacon and onion meat evenly over top of bacon and onion. Layer 1 tomato with 1/2can tomato paste, 2 sprigs sage (a kind of dried parsley), 1 teaspoon dried basil flakes, 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper. Spread reserved tomato sauce over tomatoes. Spread reserved onion dressing over tomato sauce, sprinkle over tomato sauce and sprinkle mortar and pepper over tomato sauce.

Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 20 minutes. Uncover pan and bake 45 minutes more, until cheese is brown and center is firm.

In a pot, measure 2 cups water to cover or 1/4 cup of milk, and stir until water is absorbed. Let cheese and sauce cool before serving.
