Fried Maple Meringues Recipe

Ingredients

12 funnel cakes

1 cup milk

2 tablespoons butter

1 (9 inch) prepared thin pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie

1/2 teaspoon maple syrup

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/8 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/4 teaspoon dried oregano

1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil

1/2 teaspoon dried sage

1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

3 cloves garlic, sliced

1 (10 ounce) can sliced mushrooms

Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour 2 10 inch patties.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Place one funnel in the bottom of each pan. Place 1 fork under one of the top edges to allow steam to escape while stirring.

Mix together milk, butter, maple syrup and flour. Spread over one tablespoon of filling in each pan. Sprinkle one tablespoon of maple syrup over the top of filling, and spread mushroom topping over area of filling.

Bake 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until fudgy. Remove pan from oven; place over warm broiler for 10 minutes. Reserve 1 cup of the mushroom filling. Serve with reserved maple syrup. Top with mushroom top and/or sausage. Slice corners off of 2 muffin cups to make 2 cup bread bowls.

This was truly delicious! So simple yet tasty. I did as the recipe directed and left out the bay leaves. Is there anywhere I can find that sells basil leaves for this? Also, since I live in California, I didn't have any, so I had to improvise. I baked it in a mini-muffin tin--so good!

I really like this cake. It was very simple to make and delicious. I loathe Fruits and even more so when they are served warm. This cake was exactly what I had in mind... Comfort food without the guilt..........

I followed the recipe exactly making no changes and these were amazing! My husband complained when they were all gone. My only warning would be to be careful when grilling over high heat such as at home.
