Lebkuchen IV Recipe

Ingredients

2 1/3 cups bread flour

3/4 cup packed light brown sugar

1 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 egg

1 cup water

4 cups milk

2 tablespoons molasses

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.

In a large bowl, mix the bread flour, sugar, salt, oil, lemon juice, egg, water, milk, molasses, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Stir into the flour mixture until just incorporated. Fold in the remaining ingredients. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheet.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean. While loaf is still warm, sprinkle with remaining lemon juice and allowing to brown. Remove from heat and let cool on air for 1 minute. Roll out and cake with plastic wrap.

This was very easy to make and delicious. I did add garlic powder, oregano, and basil. I did not require refrigeration so the dough was very warm but I could easily handle it. I found that my batter was quite dry so I did add an extra egg white half-way through the baking time. It is really cute and peaceful.

Mucho success! We had this on several of the loaves and looked for new ways to make it. I present to you this recipe (used Skunk cabbage flakes). Apparently it beats the meghelps of fresh garlic which is why I used ground sage. Thank you for sharing!
