3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter
1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons lemon zest
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (8 ounce) can sliced French bread
In a heavy skillet over medium-low heat, bring lemon juice, milk, butter and brown sugar to a boil. Remove from heat and pour into a bowl. Stir in lemon zest and lemon juice mixture. Pour mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until reserving lemon juice. Serve hot with butter toast and eggs.
