Pork and Cream Pie VIII Recipe

Ingredients

1 loaf white bread, cut into 1 inch strips

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 cup evaporated milk

1/2 cup lard

3 tablespoons butter, softened

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup dry milk powder (optional)

1 1/2 tablespoons honey, for garnish

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Combine the butter, flour, and milk in a small bowl and mix firmly. Pour mixture over bread slices and sprinkle with lard. Trim slices to fit crust; pinch edges of each strip to seal.

In a large bowl, beat butter, egg, and vanilla until light and fluffy, making sure they are all moist and entirely new. Mix together sugar and honey; pour over bread mixture.

Place crust in pie pan; spoon with 1/2 cup of wet milk mixture.

Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes. Tip, if the cheese or cream sauce starts to run off, sprinkle with more milk mixture. Bake an additional 8 minutes.
