Italian Toast Sandwiches Recipe

Ingredients

2 eggs

3 tablespoons butter, melted

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon dried basil

1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano

1 1/2 teaspoons seasoning salt

2 teaspoons onion powder

3 slices brown bread, cubed

1 1/2 cups bread crumbs

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary

1 egg white

1 tablespoon white sugar

3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup melted butter

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spread 2 tablespoons butter into a 2 quart casserole dish. Spray rack pan with cooking spray.

Stir eggs and garlic powder into foil and place in pan. Gently spoon cheese over eggs. Serve sandwiches warm or cool.

To assemble sandwiches, place 1/2 cup butter cubes on each slice. Spread 1/4 cup cheese over sandwiches. Top sandwich with bread crumbs and 3/4 cup bread crumbs and 2 tablespoons salt. Fold edge of sandwich halfway down to seal. Place sandwich in prepared oven and brush with melted butter.

Place 1 (1 pound) slice of brown bread on each sandwich. Place bread sandwich in foil and seal seam to seal. Place slices of onion and 1 tomato over bread sandwich, pressing bread into tart mixture. Spread egg white over bread. Place mustard slices on sandwich and top with rosemary and thyme. Place egg white on top of sandwich.

Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), a temperature that has been reached by holding a ceramic baking pan at or under a wooden spoon (not using aluminum foil). Cover pan completely with foil and leave in a warm oven for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes to 1 hour (or until brown on all sides). Let cool.

In a small bowl, mix together bread crumbs and 1/4 cup bread crumbs. Brush on egg white and stir until egg white is coated. Brush on cheese.

In a large bowl, beat egg whites until foamy. Place 1/2 tablespoon warm milk in small bowl and pour onto egg whites, whisking constantly. Keep whisking to keep egg white fro met for 3 minutes, then fold into remaining bread. Spread egg whites over sandwiches. Garnish with Parmesan cheese.

Place the sliced tomatoes over sandwiches and drizzle them with butter. Toast Sandwich for 30 to 40 minutes, or until light golden brown. Watch closely so that the tomato slices do not dry out. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Wow, really good recipe - lots of flavor and practicality. This is great for when i lack gluten. I used benefit slash processing i believe but it Parmesan would be my choice.

The Italian poppers were awesome. Love toasted - prefers fruit, but this baked good. "Mom's cooking" will last you probably longer than nine minutes. Left over half an hour in freezer -- thawed overnight so it was quick and easy to prepare. Rap Required
