Indian Saffron Rice Recipe

Ingredients

5 1/2 cups self-rising whole wheat flour

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1/2 cup butter

2 tablespoons red food coloring

3 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon ground cloves

1 cup water

1 cup sterilized egg whites

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). In a medium saucepan do as the name suggests and warm the water to 240 degrees F (120 degrees C).

Meanwhile, stirring together the flour and salt, pour the milk mixture over the dough in the pan, then sprinkle over the top with butter or margarine. Let starch set in the butter or oil, then gradually whisk in the water. Drop dough by 1 cup at a time onto an unprepared cookie sheet.

Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or the edges will turn brown. Cool on wire rack. When cool, frost with white icing.
