3/4 cup shortening
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 cup dry milk powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a medium bowl, cream together the shortening, brown sugar and egg until smooth. Stir in the dry milk and salt. Stir in the flour, 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition. When the dough has pulled together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. On a lightly floured surface, divide the dough in half. Form the bread into two balls, then roll them out to 1/4 inch thickness.
Using a large spoon, flatten each ball into a log about 1/4 inch wide. Press into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Bake for 23 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven.
