1 (9 inch) pie shell, baked
1 (12 ounce) package white cake mix
1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Prepare and bake white cake mix according to package directions for a 9x13 inch pan. Remove from oven and let cool.
Prepare and bake whipped topping according to package directions. Spread mixture over cooled cake. In a small bowl, beat egg with electric mixer until blended. Fold in 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup butter. Spread over top of pie.
Let cool 15 minutes before serving.
