White German Bread Recipe

Ingredients

1/2 cup warm water

2 teaspoons active dry yeast

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups white sugar

3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

4 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

2 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

2 1/2 cups bread flour

1 1/2 cups bread flour

6 tablespoons warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)

3 tablespoons butter, melted

Directions

Warm the water to a boil in a small saucepan; dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.

In a large bowl, stir together white sugar, flour, baking powder, baking soda and bread flour. Make a well in the center and pour flour mixture over sugar and flour mixture. Mix well, then stir in melted butter or oil to complete the batter-refrigerate for 2 hours or until firm.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

Divide dough in half, and divide into minutes bread cubes. Roll into round loaf, and slice into 1/2 inch slices.
