1 (6 ounce) can apple pie filling
1 skinless, boneless apple - peeled, cored and chopped
1 1/2 cups white sugar
3 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup water
Preheat oven to 550 degrees F (225 degrees C). Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add apples and sugar to boil for about 15 minutes, stirring constantly. Drain and cool.
Melt butter in a small bowl over simmering water. Cream together sugar and eggs with vanilla; gradually add water until mixture is thickened. Stir in 1 cup water and apple mixture. Stir until apple mixture reaches desired consistency.
Transfer apple mixture to a large heavy bowl; stir in salt, 3/4 cup water and 1/2 cup fruit. Garnish with almonds. Pour into pie lined pie pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes, until golden brown.
