1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
2 cups milk chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheet.
In a medium bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, egg and 2 cups of flour. Beat in the salt, baking soda and cinnamon. Stir in the ginger. Combine the milk chocolate chips and 1/2 cup of applesauce. Drop the mixture evenly over the dough, and press down to 2 inches from the baking sheet.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until the top is lightly toasted. Allow to cool before cutting into squares.
