1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1 large onion, chopped
1 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 1/4 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons dried oregano
2 teaspoons dried chives
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/8 teaspoon dried basil
1 cup crushed pineapple, quartered (optional)
1 cup chopped celery
Heat oil in a large saucepan in 1/2 inch thick slices. Saute onion and sugar until golden brown. Stir salt, pepper, garlic powder, oregano and chives into onion mixture. Pour into baking dish.
In a small bowl, mix celery and pineapple. Place celery mixture in baking dish. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Bake 2 to 3 hours in the preheated oven, stirring occasionally. Remove from oven and sprinkle with chopped celery and pineapple. Serve at room temperature.
