1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup chopped dried black walnuts
1/2 cup dry milk powder
2 teaspoons margarine
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup chopped dried dates
1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
4 tablespoons fine food coloring
1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
1 cup quick-cooking chocolate chips
1/2 cup dry milk powder
3 tablespoons beef stock
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C): Grease two 9x13 inch baking pans.
In a large bowl combine flour, cocoa, shortening and sugar. Cut in margarine or milk until mixture is smooth. Stir in baking powder, walnuts, vanilla extract and milk powder, mix until well blended. Stir in dates and confectioners' sugar.
Bake in the preheated oven 60 to 70 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes before serving. Cool on wire racks.
