1 (9 inch) prepared shortbread pie crust
4 eggs
6 tablespoons margarine, melted
4 tablespoons finely chopped onion
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon white sugar
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
1 1/2 teaspoons orange extract
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
4 ounces hot pepper sausage
1 (8 ounce) can sliced mushrooms, drained
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Heat oven to 300 degrees F.
Beat eggs and margarine in medium bowl. Mix together the remaining ingredients. Mix the milk mixture with 1 teaspoon sugar and lemon zest and orange extract and mix together. Pour batter into pie crust.
Bake in the preheated oven 10 to 13 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center of the pie comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack.
Cut the sausage into 1 inch strips. Place sausage in a small saucepan, and pour milk mixture over all. Let harden a few hours in refrigerator.
Stir the crushed mozzarella cheese, lime zest, orange extract, oregano, mozzarella cheese, hot pepper sausage, and mushrooms into the pie crust.
Cover pie with a plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight. Slice the cheese with a sharp knife, and set aside.
Remove foil from plastic wrap. Fill pie crust with cheese mixture. Beat in cream cheese mixture. Chill in refrigerator. Serve warm.
