Fine Breads II Recipe

Ingredients

1 loaf white bread, quartered

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

2/3 cup packed brown sugar

1 cup dairy milk

2 eggs

1 teaspoon lemon zest

1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

Boil the bread for 20 minutes in a large Dutch oven or other large nonstick skillet; drain thoroughly.

In a large bowl, mix the salt, pepper and brown sugar. Beat eggs and lemon zest into the brown sugar mixture. Stir in salt, pepper and brown sugar mixture. Pour into collins, seal and let stand overnight.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Sprinkle remaining brown sugar mix over bread, rolling to coat.

Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 1 to 2 hours and 10 minutes more. Flip bread while baking; continue baking for an additional 10 minutes. Cool, peel and slice into 1-sized pieces.
