French Toast II Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup butter, softened

2 eggs

1/2 cup lard

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 teaspoons almond extract

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup sliced bread

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter, melted

4 slices white bread

3 tablespoons milk

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking dish.

Cut butter into the bottom of a large glass dish or saucepan. In a small bowl, mix eggs, lard, milk and vanilla. Place mixture in pan.

Arrange bread slices in two or three layers around pie. Place sliced bread on top of bread. Cover with oiled sides of baking paper and drizzle with melted butter.

Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes, until golden brown. Serve hot out of dish with butter and eggs.

Remove bread from dish and place in two separate medium baking dishes. Drizzle butter mixture over bread; sprinkle with sugar. Heat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Bake bread in preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until light brown. Remove from oven and brush with egg/lard mixture. Spoon bread mixture into pan.

Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool in pan on top rack of oven, turn cool completely, and store in refrigerator.

To make pineapple cake: Combine 1 cup of pineapple juice, orange juice, lemon juice and 1 cup pineapple, remaining pineapple with juice. Punch outside of pineapple and insert a pineapple stem into base of jar. Place remaining pineapple over pineapple stem. Fill with pineapple.

To make pineapple glaze: Mix 2 cups sugar, 3 tablespoons milk and 1/2 cup butter mixture. Pour glaze over pineapple; drizzle over pineapple top and sides of pineapple. Serve sliced with fruit slices and pineapple stick!

I followed the recipe exactly making no changes and these were excellent--my husband gave them 10 stars, although way too rich for my taste. This is great if you like to thicken the brownies a bit. Although, I added a small pinch of nutmeg and others--I love chocolate and peanutbutter!
