Royal Jelly Squares Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup butter

2 eggs

1/2 cup white sugar

2 tablespoons milk

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

3 tablespoons lemon juice

6 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 9 inch square pan. Cream together butter, eggs, sugar and milk. Stir well. Cook over low heat until just lukewarm, about 4 minutes. Remove from heat. Sprinkle flour over eggs; stir gently until evenly browned. When flour has dripped mixture over top of dough, transfer to prepared pan.

Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool slightly; turn over and cool slightly. Allow to cool completely. Repeat with remaining ingredients.

Thinly slice each package of strawberries into 1/2 inch rounds. Place about 3/4 ounce portions of each strawberry into each square, about 1 inch thick. Place jelly balls with sliced strawberries on top of jelly squares. Garnish with lemon juice. Frost with strawberry topping.

Light, but effective.

These are the BEST pies crusts I've ever made! I loved the idea of a chocolate crust, so I made that. Then I proceeded to layer the filling, between the cheeses. Then I topped the cake with a generous layer of the condensed milk/water mixture. Then I used a large spoon to drizzle the top of each square, and there it was! Such an EASY cookie to make, and the filling was so creamy, even though it had no butter. It was absolutely wonderful-- I used chocolate chips, and I didn't have to use an ice cream machine. My husband loved it! I should make this every year~YUM!

Made these for a party, took a bite, went into sugar shock. Luckily, my Malinois had help bringing this to the table. The frosting was a complete mess, and I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what the heck I was doing differently. One theory was that the chocolate chips were just not going to cut it for me, so I was putting the frosting into smaller pieces--maybe I should make smaller pieces entirely. Next time, I might try reducing the amount of butter, cream, and milk, or maybe I should just make smaller pieces altogether. Anyhow, this frosting was a complete mess, and I'm not recommending you do the same, but maybe a little experimentation is in order. Thanks anyway.
