1 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 small onion, chopped
2 cups white sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup bacon grease
1 (16 ounce) container French baguette, cut into 1/3 inch cubes
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Combine the butter, salt, onion, sweet potatoes, potato slices, and bacon under a large heavy skillet or frying pan. Saute over medium heat 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Once bottom has turned golden brown, flip onto waxed paper, using an electric food processor or blender to mill points around edges of the crust; about 10 points total.
Bake 20 minutes in the preheated oven, flipping once once. The bottom should be golden brown. Cool crust before cutting into 1 inch cubes.
