2 tablespoons olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 onion, minced
roughly crushed red pepper
1 cup dried okra
2 cups water
1 l/1 pound bacon
2/3 cup soy sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
In a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat, heat olive oil. Cook garlic in oil just until it begins to appear brown; reduce heat to low and let stand for 5 minutes. Add onion and chili; mix well. Cook over low heat for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
Return the onion mixture to the pan, stirring constantly; reduce heat to medium-low and melt butter or margarine. Stir brown sugar over rice and top with chopped lard. Season with salt and serve.
