1 tablespoon vegetable oil for deep frying
1 onion, chopped
1 pepper, chopped
3 small cabbage, sliced
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 (8 ounce) can whole milk
2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
1 tablespoon dried marjoram
2 tablespoons spearmint
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 cup packed light brown sugar
In a large square dish, combine the oil, onion, pepper, cabbage, olive oil, crushed red pepper flakes, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, marjoram, spearmint and nutmeg. Mix well. pour this mixture over the onion, pepper, cabbage, oil mixture in the prepared dish.
Bake uncovered at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for 30 minutes. Remove foil and brown the sausage within a couple of minutes. Discard any remaining sauce. Place in two separate bowls, and stir in nuts, cherries, pumpkin seeds, basil, cinnamon and lemon zest. Serve hot or cold.
