Rustic Italian Meatballs Recipe

Ingredients

1 pound lean ground beef

3 pounds thinly sliced sausage

6 ounces spaghetti sauce mix

2 (10 ounce) cans tomato paste

1 (36 fluid ounce) can tomato juice

1 small onion, chopped

1 green bell pepper, chopped

1 teaspoon dried basil

salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

Slice meat in 1-1/4 inch slices. In a medium mixing bowl, mix the lean ground beef, sausage and spaghetti sauce mix.

Top each hamburger with 3 teaspoons minced onion. Mix in the tomato paste, tomato juice, onion, green pepper, basil, salt and pepper. Arrange hamburgers flat side down on ungreased baking sheet.

Bake, uncovered, in preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Place hamburgers in oven uncovered, basting occasionally with tomato sauce mixture. Cook until sausage is evenly browned, about 1 hour.
