Swiss Cheese Bread II Recipe

Ingredients

2 eggs, beaten

1 onion, sliced

1 1/2 cups milk

2 teaspoons lemon juice

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

3 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon dried basil

8 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9x5 inch loaf pans.

Place eggs in a large saucepan, and whisk in milk, lemon juice and pepper.

Place onion slices on bottom of each pan.

In a large bowl, cream together the brown sugar, salt, basil and orange zest. Beat in the butter or margarine. Stir in the flour. Pour batter into prepared pans.

Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into center of each loaf comes out clean.
