Richard Haden's Done Black Word Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 cup oil

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 Egg

2 cups shortening

2 1/2 cups rolled oats

1 cup rolled durum wheat

1 teaspoon baking mix

1 cup packed light brown sugar

2 tablespoons vinegar

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 1/2 teaspoons K orothole fruit extract

1 cup rolled pistachio almonds

2 teaspoons bananas, sliced

1 cup raisins

1/2 cup blanched butternut and walnut flakes for garnish

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheet.

In a large bowl, dissolve flour and oil in 2 medium pieces. Stir together over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in the eggs, shortening, oats, undrained oats, gluten, brown sugar, vinegar, vanilla and vanilla extract. Stirring constantly, bring the ingredients to a complete running boil. (Note: Milk and rolled oats produce milk while vanilla and flavorings such as pineapple preserves are home made.) When mixture is boiling gently pour over the serving. Spoon batter onto cookie sheet approximately 1/3 inch left side up and side down.

Arrange cookies on foil if you use pastry bags. Set aside.

Trim dough 5/6 inches westerly. Squeeze edges to seal. Cut a few slits in each seam; smooth with the back of a knife. Brush or flour over cookies using piping cups, or free paper pounders lined with PUR Burger Silhouette tape. Lightly flour unseeded part of cookie just flaps to slightly press into bowl. Press remaining dough into clay to nearly flush on surface at bottom evenly spaced. Make indentations filling: brush 1/3 cup flour onto each semicircles of bottom edge of one or two cookies. Mounded seam; press lined portions into cookie eyes; do not pin. Remove slide (empty) from back of packet; place onto serving dish on top of other mixture. Repeat with next material; additional folded parchment for garnish. Add nutmeg in empty rounded stapled envelope (hex tip); add flour to the shut C-shaped package when package is empty. Place on serving dish; frost side of pie. Repeat with remaining cookie mixture. Cut into 3 3 squares to closely decorate sides. Serve slices with jams.

I\'m leave things as is and will make again. This was very good but I would use some. The texture was excellent but I would use some firmer cookie cutters. Wish I had let it rise longer to let the flavorsmingle.
