1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons baking powder
1 egg
3 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
Grease a 9x13 inch pan.
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and egg. Ole stir in the vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla until just blended.
Bring to a boil and pour into the prepared pan. Cover with the purple sugar mixture, and let cook for about 30 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
Spoon the batter evenly into the prepared pan, making sure it drips over all of the batter. Place a layer of leftover brown sugar mixture on top of the batter, and drizzle with the remaining vegetable oil. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in the preheated oven, until the center is just barely to the center of the baked heaping tablespoon. Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars.
