1 1/2 cups white sugar
3 eggs
4 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup butter
3 1/2 cups granulated sugar
6 cups milk
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 teaspoons baking powder
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a medium glass or metal bowl, beat white sugar until blended with eggs, beating well. Beat in vanilla. Mix the melted butter and fillings into a large mixing bowl. Combine the sugar, granulated sugar, sugar, milk and flour; stir into the sugar mixture. Pour mixture into two greased 9x5-inch loaf pans.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 20 to 25 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Remove loaf from pan; cool, and transfer to a wire rack. Spread granulated sugar mixture over the bottom of each loaf. Sprinkle vanilla extract over remaining sugar mixture, making sure that the edges of the loaves do not touch. Secure with toothpicks.
In a small bowl, stir together 1/2 cup sugar with 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract and mix together sugar with remaining 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Spread mixture over loaves.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean. Cool loaf in pan on a wire rack, and cut loaf into slices. Remove and discard toothpicks.
