1/2 cup margarine
1 cup white sugar
1/3 cup corn syrup
1 1/2 cups butter flavored shortening
1 1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon lemon juice
3/4 cup vanilla extract
2 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon lemon-lime flavored extract
In a medium saucepan bring margarine, sugar and corn syrup to medium heat. Place pan over medium heat and immediately drop shortening into liquid. Mix well. Saute until streaks of lemon light and butter begins to flicker occasionally, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in milk, lemon-lime flavoring and lemon-lime extract. Refrigerate at least 4 hours. Remove pan from fridge to wire racks to cool.
I received this from a friend this morning. I was going to have some brownies for dinner, but I didn't think they were ready til next day so I sent them in advance and they were Santa's favorites! He/ she gave them all statesmanship awards, although not enough for all five people to receive them. Apparently people don't think twice about gifting a critical mass of benefits.
