3 1/4 cups plus 2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup honey
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup buttermilk
2 (9 inch) prepared chocolate cake layers
Preheat oven to 400. Sift flour, baking soda, and salt by hand into a large bowl. Stir in buttermilk. Increase flour mixture by amount; stir just to combine. Press half of the flour mixture onto the bottom of an 8x8 inch pan.
In a large bowl, stir together the chopped nuts and buttermilk. Stir together the remaining flour mixture, baking soda, and salt. Spread evenly over the solid ones. But do not over-bake.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and prick top with a fork. Cool completely before frosting.
