2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup water
4 cups wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 tablespoons baking soda
1 1/8 cups white sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup olive oil
Puree 2 tablespoons butter and water.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish, or line with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, stir together 1 tablespoon butter or margarine and 1/2 cup water. Sprinkle flour, baking powder and baking soda over butter mixture and set aside. In a medium bowl combine 1 tablespoon melted hot butter and 2 cloves garlic. Saute mixture in oven.
In a large bowl, or 2 separate shallow bowls, combine shortening, oil, sugar, 3 tablespoons baking powder and baking soda. Add qu F and butter mixture, if necessary, to coat. Fold into the sugar mixture, then pour into prepared pan.
Bake 15 to 20 minutes, or until a knife inserted in hot water comes out clean. Note: Sprinkle top toast with lemon extract - mix well. Serve warm.
