1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1/3 cup boiling water
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup chopped pecans
8 cups eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 1/4 cups white sugar
4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 cup butter, softened
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Make Oats by slicing and buttering ends depending on texture/color of flour cereal.
In a large bowl, cream together 1/2 cup butter, 1/4 cup sugar, and flour until smooth. Mix in eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla, flour, baking powder and baking soda until smooth. Beat in pecans. Stir in peanuts and pecans.
Using an electric mixer or with hands, beat 2/3 cup of the butter mixture until the desired consistency is reached. Beat in remaining 1/3 cup of sugar until smooth. Cool slightly, reserve 1/3 cup butter mixture.
Place the remaining 1/3 cup of the butter mixture on a packed baking sheet and lay flat. Spread 1 cup of pecans over the butter mixture and place other pecans on top. Gently spread remaining butter mixture age over pecan mixture.
Bake uncovered in preheated oven for 4 to 6 hours, or until an inserted knife comes out clean. Cool completely and serve warm.
