1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 cup frozen chopped broccoli, thawed and sliced (optional)
1 tablespoon chopped celery
1 small onion, chopped (optional)
1 pound bacon
1/2 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (optional)
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 bay leaf
To the vegetable oil add broccoli and celery. Stir in onion, bacon, tomato sauce, cayenne pepper, reserved pepper, and pepper flakes. Heat through, about 10 minutes. It will thicken cream.
Heat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Stir in tomato sauce and ground cayenne pepper. Pour over vegetables and pour evenly over vegetables. Season with salt and pepper.
Spoon over vegetables and top with meatballs. Bake usually 30 minutes or until cheese is golden brown and bubbly.
Quick and easy preparation. A nice subtle bourbon hint. I'd make this mixture over and over again.
