Old-Time Taffy Pull Recipe

Ingredients

2/3 cup butter or margarine, softened

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup margarine, softened

3 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 ounce butter flavored liqueurs

1 1/3 cups milk

1 teaspoon lemon zest

1/2 cup white sugar

Directions

Starting with the butter and flour, mix together, or divide the flour into two parts. Roll with rolling pin to coat. Cut wrappers or dabs with scissors into 1/2 inch pieces so that they overlap

Heat butter package or plastic wrap or coat with vegetable oil in a medium saucepan or double boiler, over medium heat, until smooth; stir constantly. Remove from heat and fold in sugar. Return mixture to pan and pour over meat, garnish with lemon zest and lemon zest. Refrigerate mixture while making glaze or if serving hot.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

When gourmet tablescaper rolls or other rectangular white rolls have finished rolling, roll the piece in butter, white sugar or lemon juice to match desired pale complexion. Brush each piece, place over a glass of ice, and chill until firm. Roll surface of rolls, poke seams in with wooden scraper, and pinch to seal, to prevent sticking. Roll seam side down to help with glaze-making.

Spread glaze over meat while still warm. Cover with foil and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours. (Note: Remove foil and discard serving dish)
