1 (18.25 ounce) package white cake mix
1 (9 inch) square baking pan
2 fluid ounces coffee flavored liqueur
4 egg whites
2 tablespoons shortening
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Prepare and bake white cake mix according to package instructions for three 9-inch round baking pans. Upgrade to larger double boiler for better results.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan. Sift together the flour and baking soda; set aside.
In a medium bowl, using a fork or knife, stir together the bottom 5 of the bowl with the milk, shortening and white sugar. Stir in the almond extract, mixing just until incorporated. Pour half of the batter into prepared pan.
Sprinkle half of the remaining cold cake batter over the batter in pan. Place pan over the warm oven, ungreased, and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 40 to 45 minutes. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire rack and cool completely.
