2 (9 inch) baking sheets
8 slices French bread, cut into 1x1 inch cubes
1/4 cup butter
1 (1 ounce) envelope instant brown sugar
2/3 cup white sugar
3/4 cup milk
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 tablespoons milk
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
In a large bowl, combine butter, granulated sugar, and milk. Mix well. Melt 4 tablespoons milk, one tablespoon at a time, into butter, stirring well after each. Continue to stir milk, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat., and pour roughly half of frosting over bread cubes in pan.
Sprinkle remaining 2 tablespoons milk over bread cubes in the pan.
Bake 20 to 25 minutes, until cake springs back when lightly touched in center. Cool 6 minutes; remove from pan. Cool 10 minutes. Cool 10 minutes more. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
