1 (8 ounce) package chicken sausage, sliced
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/3 cup water
1 small onion, chopped
1 (16 ounce) can kidney beans with liquid
1 (28 ounce) can chicken broth
1 (10 ounce) package shredded Cheddar cheese
In a medium saucepan, cook sausage in 1/2 teaspoon dried basil and 1/3 cup brown sugar until evenly brown. Mix in 1/3 cup water and 1/3 cup onion. Cover saucepan with aluminum foil and place in a large pot. Bring to a boil and cook, stirring occasionally, for 1 minute. Reduce heat to medium and cook for 10 minutes.
Stir in beans, chicken broth, cheese and Italian seasoning. Pour mixture over chicken and simmer for 5 minutes.
