1/2 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup butter, melted
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup skim milk
4 cups strawberries, sliced
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
2 cups chopped dates
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9 inch round pans.
Sift together the flour, baking powder and baking soda. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, white sugar and milk until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time beating well with each addition. Mix in the flour mixture. Mix in the flour mixture, eggs, vanilla and 1 cup flour. Mix until the dough has pulled together.
Pinch off 1/2 of the sticky ends of the dough. Roll the dough out into a rectangle. Arrange the remaining ends onto the bottom of a glass serving dish. Spread the butter mixture over the top of the dough. Garnish with strawberries and walnuts. Cover with remaining 8 sheets of dough.
Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and let stand for 10 minutes to cool completely. Sprinkle the strawberries over the cooled crust.
This was ok. I will make this again but would use fresh minced garlic instead of the powder and reduce the pepper. May try with chiles next time.
