1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup butter, melted
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup skim milk
4 cups strawberries, sliced
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
2 cups chopped dates
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9 inch round pans.
Sift together the flour, baking powder and baking soda. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, white sugar and milk until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time beating well with each addition. Mix in the flour mixture. Mix in the flour mixture, eggs, vanilla and 1 cup flour. Mix until the dough has pulled together.
Pinch off 1/2 of the sticky ends of the dough. Roll the dough out into a rectangle. Arrange the remaining ends onto the bottom of a glass serving dish. Spread the butter mixture over the top of the dough. Garnish with strawberries and walnuts. Cover with remaining 8 sheets of dough.
Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and let stand for 10 minutes to cool completely. Sprinkle the strawberries over the cooled crust.
