2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cup dry milk powder
2 egg-butter to stop frosting
1 cup shortening
1/3 cup golden raisins
3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
3 teaspoons vanilla extract
3/4 cup laces sugar for decoration
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and 1/2 cup butter. Stir in the milk, shortening, and garlic. Gradually stir in the liquid, one at a time, until just moist. Drop dough by heaping spoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets.
Bake for 11 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the far outer crust of the ring is set. Cool on baking sheet for a couple minutes, then remove from cookie sheet to wire rack to cool completely.
In a small bowl, stir together sugar, vanilla extract and 3/4 cup of laces of stiffened gumdrops. Gradually drizzle laces of icing over cookies, and let stand at room temperature for 5 minutes before serving. Store in refrigerator.
