1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1 (3 ounce) package strawberry flavored Jell-O mix
1/2 cup boiling water
1 (3 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
1 (3 ounce) package instant strawberry shortening
1 teaspoon orange extract
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 8 inch round pans.
In a medium bowl, stir together cake mix, pecans and almonds. Mix boiling water with pudding mix in a separate bowl. Pour wet mixture into cake batter portion and mix in pudding mixture. Using fingertips, tip jell-o mixture into the batter. Spread about 1/2 inch down sides of prepared pans.
Bake in preheated oven for 53 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on rack in pan and refrigerate overnight. Cool completely.
When cool, frost cooled cake with a frosting of vanilla pudding. Store cold.
