2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon butter
1 (18 ounce) can white butter
2 eggs
1 cup applesauce
3 cups sliced almonds
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9- inch round pans.
Pour flour into a large bowl. Beat in sugar and butter or margarine until smooth. Beat in eggs and applesauce. Mix together with an electric mixer for 1 minute. Pour batter into prepared pans.
Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 35 minutes, or until set. Cool in pans for 10 minutes. Allow to cool completely.
To make the frosting: In a medium bowl, cream together white sugar and margarine until light and fluffy. Mix in applesauce and almonds. Mix in lemon juice and butter/margarine until well blended.
To make the glaze: In a large bowl, combine cream cheese, cream cheese mixture, eggs and apple mixture. Beat until blended. Pour glaze over cooled cake while remaining in pans. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the glaze to set.
