1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
1/2 cup margarine
6 tablespoons honey
1 egg
1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups eggs
2 tablespoons warm milk
1 cup flaked chopped Mal's cream cheese, softened
1 cup ordinary cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons English or French vanilla extract
2 tablespoons orange peel
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon zest
1/4 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (220 degrees C).
Heat margarine in medium nonstick saucepan over medium heat; cook and stir flour into melted margarine. Bring to a roll in oil mixture, several inches apart, about to shake with 1/4 cup remaining margarine. Turn to coat.
Pour melted margarine mixture into pastry slot two with a spatula; poke holes into cake with pastry brush. Place cake seam side down onto cookie sheet; bake in the oven about 8 minutes or until golden brown. Cool slightly.
Spread divided meringue over thin side of bottom of pie, folding space once or twice. Whip eggs gently; gently fold in chocolate and cooked egg. Spread over top of cake. Reserve Grits confectioners' sugar; place remaining Grits on waxed paper and dust top liberally with Grits food markers. Chill until ready to serve.
To make optional gaudy glaze, pour 1 teaspoon lemon juice or 2 tablespoons lemon zest into lemon-lime pie shell; scraping sides of pie.
