1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 1/2 cups butter or margarine, softened
1 cup milk
1 cup boiling water
1 cup chopped almonds
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
In a large bowl, cream together the flour and sugar until smooth; beat in the brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir in the egg, vanilla extract and chopped nuts. Set aside.
Divide dough into 4 pieces. Roll pieces into 1 inch balls. Place each ball on the cookie sheet. Place cookie pieces flat against the bottom of the cookie sheet. Cover with 1 teaspoon butter, 2 cups milk, and 1/4 teaspoon salt, then pipe icing on top.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, until completely browned. Cool cookies on wire racks. Cool completely. Store in refrigerator.
