1/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar
1/2 cup margarine
2 eggs
1 1/4 cups orange juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon orange extract
1 cup margarine, melted
1 (8 ounce) package frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 cup sliced almonds
1 egg, beaten
1 cup confectioners' sugar for dusting
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a large bowl, cream together shortening and brown sugar. Beat in flour and 2 1/2 cups brown sugar. Mix in margarine and eggs; stir until blended. Stir in orange juice and vanilla. Stir in margarine, orange extract, melted margarine and orange peels.
Spread dough evenly into the bottom of a 9 inch round baking dish. Sprinkle with almonds. Dust top lightly with confectioners' sugar.
Bake in preheated oven for ~25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown. Cool completely. Store in refrigerator.
