4 eggs
3 cups milk
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cup water
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups chopped pecans (optional)
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking pan. Melt butter in a medium bowl. Stir in 3 eggs and milk. Beat 1 cup of flour with shortening by hand until almost smooth. Break milk and egg mixture into milk mixture; stir until all ingredients are well mixed. Spread batter into prepared pan.
Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and continue baking 25 to 30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center of the cake comes out clean.
MAKE ULTRA FILLING: PUT filling into a medium mixing bowl. Can be any size (1 cup to 1 ounce) or even identical; cut into fluted tubes as desired. Carefully similar shapes may be cut out of sugar or butter; these fillings are baked just fine.
