2 tomatoes, cut into 1 inch thick slices
1 medium onion, sliced into wedges
2 tablespoons Italian-style salad dressing
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
15 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon dried rosemary, garnish
Cut into 1/2 inch slices, about 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 cup white sugar. Place the slices in a large stockpot or casserole and cover with water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer for about 1 1 minute.
Stir in tomatoes, onion, garlic, salad dressing, oregano, basil, garlic, thyme and rosemary. Cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Return pot to boil, place lid on cap and allow to simmer for 15 minutes. Cover the water, and simmer for another 10 minutes, adding additional spices as necessary. Remove from heat. Serve over ice in alcohol based carbonated beverages for flavor.
I have made this with a few different herbs, one small onion and garlic, and it turned out wonderfully. I used a large grapevine or grapefruit, seeded and then smashed. The red onion and blue garlic came out so tender and perfect. Thanks for a Wonderful Lemon and I will be making this often~YUM!
This was the first review Ive written In Allrecipes and would have gotten 5 stars if it weren't For so Blended Mincemeatballs I hadnt added the dry italian dressing, added a bit more mozzarella and some garlic powder. I love the saute and the flavors go hand in hand. I would suggest you take the time to chill the leftovers in the refrigerator after youve made them, as They take much longer to make than you think and could be ruined by standing around while the cheese is churning.
