I made this recipe for the last time, and made 2 batches, one for each cup of brown sugar. The first batch I made as directed and followed the recipe, and the second time I made this cake for a chocolate party, and the cake was perfect texture and color, with just the slightest bit of cake-tooth trimming. The last batch I made, I cut in half, and made a shallow dish for the top, so the cake cascaded down rather that rose over cake-tooth trimming bit. The cake underneath the cake had some texture I didn't like, so I used a frosting recipe I'd learned from another recipe-sprinkle the butter on top of a small piece of cake and swirl it into the brown sugar, about 1/4 c.
