1 cup dry bread crumbs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons Italian-style dry bread crumbs
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/4 teaspoon lemon zest
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Layer the bread crumbs in a single layer on the bottom of a 9 inch springform pan.
Saute onion and garlic in vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Stirring constantly, saute until golden brown. Stir-fry bread with garlic mixture for about 2 minutes; stop stirring. Stir-fry the onion and garlic mixture into the bread mixture, mixing well. Reduce the heat to low; add the lemon juice and Italian-style bread crumbs. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
Bake in preheated oven for 50 minutes, allowing cheese to set in. Bake 20 to 25 minutes more, or until bubbly and golden brown. Serve hot or cold, or wrap in plastic wrap; cool thoroughly.
