Dark Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups butter or margarine

1 cup white sugar

1 cup packed light brown sugar

1 (1 ounce) square unsweetened chocolate, chopped

1 cup milk

2 eggs

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour three 9 inch round cake pans.

Beat butter and brown sugar in large bowl until blended; mix in light brown sugar, chocolate and milk. Beat in eggs, 1 tablespoon at a time, then stir in chocolate mixture. Stir flour into chocolate mixture, then pour into prepared pan.

Bake in preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean, about 45 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool completely.

Beat together eggs, vanilla extract and flour in small bowl until well blended. Stir chocolate mixture into cooled batter. Pour batter into prepared pans.

Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool completely.

In a small bowl, mix together chocolate and brown sugar. Beat egg mixture into cooled mixture, then stir into chocolate mixture. Cool completely and spread evenly in prepared pans.

To make the frosting: Beat the milk, powdered sugar and cocoa in small bowl; pour over cooled cake.

What a great, easy dessert to make! I would absolutely love it if you cooked it in a 9x13 pan, though--that would be even better, I'm sure. I made mine in a big cake pan, and it came out great. The crumb on top is great, too, and doesn't lose its shape even after it's been sitting around for an hour. Very nice. The recipe looks like it would be really easy to modify to your own tastes, and I ended up adding some dried cranberries to the top, because I really do prefer a thicker cake than the usual half-cake, and this is getting old before my eyes. Anyway, good cake, thanks!
