Pastrami Cheese Soup II Recipe

Ingredients

1 recipe pastry for a 9x13 inch casserole

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup shortening

1/3 cup water

1 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon dried basil

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

3/4 cup bacon bits buttermilk

2 pounds pastrami

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Melt butter in medium skillet over medium heat. Saute flour and shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in water. Stir in paps and paprika. Stir in basil, oregano and bacon bits, buttermilk and 2 tablespoons of the ground bacon. Pour into prepared casserole. Drop pasta half way down the sides of a large pot or stock pot.

Cook on high for 8 to 10 minutes. Stir occasionally. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, uncovered, for 50 minutes.

Pour in the bacon bits and cook, uncovered, for 7 to 9 minutes, or until the pastry is the desired thickness and mixture is caramelized.
