1 (1 pound) whole chicken, cut into pieces
2 cups white rice
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon white sugar
8 ounces sliced ham
8 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese
1 medium onion, diced
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Remove chicken pieces from broth and set aside.
In a large stockpot, heat oil in large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken pieces, brown on both sides, and teaspoon salt and sugar. Place in oil mixture and saute over medium heat for 2 minutes. Simmer until chicken is cooked through and juices run clear.
Stir ham in with chicken pieces and liquid in pan. Add rice and stir together. Bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes. Add mushrooms and garlic; cook for 2 minutes.
Add ham mixture to chicken with the green onions and Worcestershire sauce. Thicken and serve.
